Creation of an efficiency system for the generator presents inside the Margherita Hut refuge employing supercapacitor storage and a three-phase battery charger/inverter configuration. Margherita Hut is the highest alpine refuge in Europe with its 4554 meters above sea level. This represented an important test, given the high altitude and temperatures that reach -40°C in winter. The refuge is open according to climatic conditions from June to September: during the opening season, the solution exploits the excess energy production of the three-phase generator present to recharge the storage and use it in charge and discharge cycles. In this way, in addition to periods of silence, hours of operation of the generator set which would otherwise have to remain constantly on are saved. Significant reduction in the environmental and economic impact due to the reduction in the need for diesel fuel that must be brought to altitude by helicopter.
Three Victron Multipus 48V/15kVA inverter battery chargers and 4 Sirius 48/3.55kWh supercapacitors for 14.2kWh of useful storage, plus a BEP Marine 48V DC distribution system.
